The Wisconsin Section

The Wisconsin Section of the Society was chartered in 1980, an expansion of the Milwaukee Section, which had beenAt the Council of Section Representatives Meeting, June, 1999 chartered in 1973.  The Wisconsin Section includes all of Wisconsin except the environs of the Twin Cities, as well as the western part of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula (see the map in the logo).  As of July, 2004, the section has 122 members, a 60% growth over the previous year.  In FY96 the Wisconsin Section was recognized as having the Largest Net Membership Increase for a medium sized section, as well as having the Best Membership Program for a medium section.  The Wisconsin Section repeated that second honor in FY97, as well as winning the Corning Incentive Grant for its new science and technology teaching aid, Elementary School Outreach Activities Kit.  In FY98 and FY99, the Section was recognized as having the Best Strategic Communications Program for a medium-sized section.

 

Society of Women Engineers (SWE) History

On May 27, 1950, the Society of Women Engineers was founded and its first four Sections were chartered:  Boston, New York, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC.  Today there are approximately 86 Sections and 274 Student Sections in ten Regions throughout the country with a total of about 17,000 members.  SWE has given awards of recognition for accomplishments in the field of engineering since 1952 and scholarships since 1958.  In recent years, the Society has awarded about $250,000 in scholarships.

The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) is a non-profit educational and service organization. SWE is the driving force that establishes engineering as a highly desirable career aspiration for women. SWE empowers women to succeed and advance in those aspirations and receive the recognition and credit for their life-changing contributions and achievements as engineers and leaders.
